MSc cooperates with Shanghai International Port Group in the new wharf project
MSc mediterranean shipping is pleased to announce the deepening of strategic cooperation with Shanghai international port group to jointly build a new yard in Yangshan port. The storage yard is located in the New Lingang area. Its construction is in progress and is expected to be officially opened next year.
Having a special terminal yard and a professional yard team will improve the resource support required for handling empty containers and accelerate the turnover efficiency of these containers in the port. This is particularly important in view of the continued strong demand for Chinese exports and the persistent shortage of equipment in the industry.
Shanghai Port overtook Singapore as the busiest port in the world in 2010. In 2020, the container throughput of Shanghai Port reached a new record of 43.5 million TEU, and maintained the title of the world's busiest container port for 11 consecutive years. It is undoubtedly an indispensable port in MSC's Global trade network. MSc's throughput in this port has been growing steadily for many years. At present, MSC has 18 direct routes and more than 20 ships calling at Yangshan phase III wharf every week.
"Over the past year, we have seen the importance of more cooperation with key partners, including port authorities, to overcome the supply chain challenges facing the industry. We are happy to participate in this dock eviction project. We believe this will improve the shipper's process of picking up empty containers, make it smoother and more efficient, and improve customer service, "said Zhu Jing, managing director of MSC Greater China.
